Hi, I’m Lara Beeston from Lacewing Creative. I want to share with you the top five things that have really helped me grow my art and my business. These little tips have made a big difference, and I hope they inspire you too.

Number 5 – The Gift of a New Laptop

My husband surprised me with my own laptop for my birthday. It was such a special gift because it gave me a space to be free and to experiment. Having my own device meant I could learn new skills and grow my business without feeling limited. It was a gift that truly opened doors for me.

Tools for Success

As a lettering artist, using the right tools is so important. I spent years watching top lettering artists to see how they work. Learning to vector my designs makes creating crisp, beautiful lettering much easier. But I still love starting with a simple, battered sketchbook and a mechanical pencil. Using a grid sketchbook helps me relax about keeping pages perfect. Remember, creativity thrives when you let go of the need for perfection.

Inspiration from the Library

The library is my go-to place for inspiration. I borrow more books than I can read, but that’s okay. It’s free, close by, and they even take requests for new books. It’s a wonderful resource for any artist or small business owner.

Breakfast for Dinner

This might sound strange, but I love the idea of breakfast for dinner. When I was starting out, I attended a talk for busy mums. It was about how to manage life without guilt. The idea of eating porridge at night felt freeing. Sometimes, small ideas like this can make a big difference in our busy lives. I highly recommend trying it!

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear what you think of number five. And if you’re looking for a special gift, check out our Christmas Tea Towel collection for some lovely ideas.
