Hi, I’m Lara Beeston from Lacewing Creative, and I want to share with you the top five things that have helped me grow my art and my business. These small changes made a big difference, and I hope they inspire you too.

Number 5: The Gift of a Laptop

My husband gave me my own laptop for my birthday. It was more than just a gift; it was a space for me to be free and to experiment. Having my own device meant I could learn new skills and grow my business without feeling held back. It was a thoughtful way he planned for my future, and it truly opened doors for me.

Tools for Success

As a lettering artist, using the right tools is so important. I spent years watching top lettering artists to see how they work. Learning how to vector my designs makes creating crisp, beautiful lettering so much easier. But I still love starting with a simple, battered sketchbook and a mechanical pencil. Using a basic grid sketchbook helps me relax about making mistakes and keeps my creativity flowing. Remember, aiming for perfection can sometimes block your ideas.

Inspiration from the Library

The library is my go-to place for inspiration. I borrow more books than I can read, but that’s okay. It’s free, close by, and they even take requests for new books. It’s a wonderful resource for any artist or small business owner.

Breakfast for Dinner

This might sound strange, but stay with me. When I was starting out, I attended a talk for busy mums. They told us it was okay to have breakfast for dinner when life gets hectic. It was such a freeing idea. If porridge is good for breakfast, it’s just as good for dinner. For a busy mum juggling everything, this small idea made a big difference. I highly recommend trying it!

What do you think of number 5? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
