Hi, I’m Lara Beeston from Lacewing Creative. I want to share with you the top five things that have really helped me grow my art and my business. These little tips have made a big difference in my journey, and I hope they inspire you too.

Number 5: The Power of Breakfast for Dinner

This might sound a bit unusual, but stay with me. When I was starting out in lettering, I attended a talk meant for busy mums. It was about managing life and work without feeling guilty. One simple idea that stuck with me was eating breakfast for dinner. If porridge is good for breakfast, why not enjoy it at night? It’s a small change that can make a big difference when life gets hectic. For busy mums or anyone juggling a lot, it’s a little way to feel more in control and less stressed.

Other Tips That Helped Me

  • Getting a new laptop: My husband gave me my own laptop for my birthday. It gave me space to experiment and learn without feeling limited.
  • Using the right tools: I studied top lettering artists and learned how to vector my work. It makes creating crisp designs so much easier.
  • Keeping a sketchbook: I still love starting with a simple, grid sketchbook and a mechanical pencil. It keeps my ideas flowing without pressure for perfection.
  • Visiting the library: The library is my go-to for inspiration. I borrow more books than I can read and even request new ones. It’s free and close by.
